Sicily is the largest Italian island in the Mediterranean Sea. And the Siciliana is a particular musical style associated with this island that evokes a pastoral mood characterised by a specific rhythm. In this piece the relaxing Siciliana rhythm alternates with a more vivacious dance rhythm that reminds one of certain popular dances of northern Italy.
