 Recording on the CD Cantata
The Doina is a Romanian musical tune style spread throughout Eastern Europe and the Balkans. It is lyrical and melancholy, almost a complaint about the bitterness of life. For this reason I think it is the ideal piece to be played as an introduction to a Gypsy Dance that seems, on the contrary, to be a celebration of the more joyful aspects of life.
